Excerpt from a court testimony given by an unnamed Innis slave during the infamous case, Harbinger of Doom v. Wheel of Fortune. The occasion called for a retelling of the Innis version of Rokolo’s ascent into the heavens, and one can only hope that the slave was punished heavily for speaking this blasphemy. The mountain spoken of here is perhaps one of the volcanoes sacred to the Fiery Wolverine, as he is often associated with fire, climbing mountains, and staircases. Some suggest the guide is the Fiery Wolverine himself, although this could not possibly be true.
As the story goes, Rokolo the Traitor found himself at the base of a mountain that spewed fire.
“What is on top of the mountain?” he asked his guide. “It is perhaps what I seek?”
“A staircase with copper balustrades,” his guide replied. “What you seek is not this.”
And so Rokolo climbed the mountain to reach a staircase. “Where does the staircase lead?” he asked his guide. “Is it perhaps what I seek?”
“To a balloon with a silver basket,” said the guide. “What you seek is not this.”
So Rokolo climbed the staircase to reach the balloon. “Where will the balloon take me?” he asked his guide. “Is it perhaps what I seek?”
“To a golden ball in the sky,” said the guide. “That is what you seek.”
So Rokolo entered the balloon and sailed to the ball in the sky. He looked over the world from far above. “And what must I do with the ball?” he asked his guide.
“From this place, you can see all the world,” the guide said. “Merely take my bones and light them on fire inside the ball, and you will have light forever more.”
